The hip-hop original was 57 years old.

Henry “Big Bank Hank” Jackson has passed away from cancer, according to In Flex We Trust. A member of hip-hop act The Sugarhill Gang, Jackson appears on the group’s ‘Rapper’s Delight’, the 1979 single that is credited with introducing hip-hop to the world.

Jackson was discovered by early hip-hop booster Sylvia Robinson, who enlisted him to join the group she had founded, The Sugarhill Gang. However, Jackson’s verse on the song was written by Cold Crush Brothers’ rapper Grandmaster Caz, who is uncredited on the song.
