The controversial pop star almost headlined SummerSlam.

Justin Bieber has made headlines recently for his presence in boxer Floyd Mayweather’s entourage, but now it appears that the singer could have entered a ring last summer — a wrestling ring, that is.

Former WWE writer and wrestling blogger Kevin Eck says that the booking team had discussed teaming Bieber with face-of-the-company John Cena and the Big Show to face the Wyatt Family team in a six-man tag match. The match would have headlined SummerSlam in Los Angeles, the WWE’s second biggest pay-per-view event after Wrestlemania.

Eck says that it was discussed about five months before the event, but he’s “not sure how close it was to actually happening.” However, Eck had concerns about pairing real-life bad boy (and likely target of audience jeers) Bieber with the heroic, babyface team.

“To address that concern, the creative suggestion was that Cena would become increasingly annoyed by Bieber in the weeks leading up to the match, but Big Show, who would be portrayed as Bieber’s friend, would repeatedly play peacemaker,” he explains. “After the babyfaces went over in the match, Bieber would be so obnoxious in trying to take credit for the win that Cena would hit the Attitude Adjustment on him for a big pop.” (Watch the below video for a sense of what that would look like.)

For those that would still like to see Bieber in the ring, Eck wouldn’t count out the possibility. “It certainly wouldn’t surprise me to see Bieber do something with WWE at some point.” And if not WWE, there’s always Billy Corgan’s TNA. [via Uproxx]
