Between unearthing Italo-disco and electro rarities, Dark Entries has had an excellent year, but they’ve saved their most exciting release of the year for now.

Muscle Up marks the label’s second volume of compositions by electronic music pioneer Patrick Cowley used in soundtracking gay porn films in the late 70s for director John Coletti. Cowley is best known for his production work for Sylvester and being a key producer in the Hi-NRG sound, but these recordings, which range from ambient to squelchy and propulsive are a fascinating, lesser known part of a career that was tragically cut short by AIDS in 1982.

In addition to the new compilation, Honey Soundsystem Records will reissue Kickin’ In, an EP showing off Cowley’s influential Hi-NRG sound over three tracks. Listen to samples for both releases below and look for them on October 19.
