Tavis Smiley’s forthcoming biography is being adapted for television.

Before You Judge Me: The Triumph And Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days is an account of the final 16 weeks of the star’s life, when he was planning a long series of comeback gigs under the banner ‘This Is It’. The final curtain call never happened, as he died in the last weeks of rehearsals.

The book is set for publication in June 2016, and ahead of that Warner Bros. Television Group has signed a major development and production deal with Smiley, who hosts the late-night television talk show Tavis Smiley on PBS.

The Michael Jackson series is one of two initial projects under the deal, along with My Journey With Maya, a memoir of the author’s long friendship with poet Maya Angelou.

Other recent learnings about the King of Pop include the twin revelations that he was almost cast as a major Star Wars character and he did not, in fact, write ‘Do The Bartman’. [via Deadline]
