When he’s not working under his moniker Vapor Gourds, Jake Meginsky crafts meticulously disorienting music under his own name. On March 18 he’ll release his new album through NNA Tapes, Seven Psychotropic Sinewave Palinedromes, and true to that title he pushes the whole “music as drugs” idea as far as possible. The record’s pummeling sine and square waves bring to mind the kind of sonic brain surgery that Ryoji Ikeda is known for, however Meginsky, a trained percussionist, shifts rhythms with a thrilling unpredictability.
