Months after his death, Bowie is still surprising us.

Blackstar, David Bowie’s final album, has come with its share of revelations following the singer’s death, and now we can add another.

A Reddit user has discovered that if you leave the gatefold sleeve for the record in the sun, the eponymous “black star” transforms into a field of glowing stars.

Another user explains that the back of the gatefold sleeve has a thinner paper than other parts allowing the star design to appear when held against a strong light.

The artwork was designed by Jonathan Barnbrook, who also provided the artwork for Heathen, Reality, and The Next Day and intended to depict “a man who was facing his own mortality”.

“A lot of people said it was a bullshit cover when it came out, that it took five minutes to design,” Barnbrook previously told design mag Dezeen. “But I think there is a misunderstanding about the simplicity.”

Take a look at Barnbrook’s work below and try it yourself if you have a copy.
