“I’ve started a new genre,” says the grime MC.

Novelist unveiled the meaning behind the “Ruff Sound Movement” he’s alluded to recently with a 40-minute session performance for Rinse. Rather than a new label or album, Novelist has declared Ruff Sound to be a new genre. The music in the session is certainly a clear descendent of grime, although it moves at a faster pace (152 -160 BPM he notes).

The 19-year-old MC has become one of the new faces of grime in recent years, but has seemed to distance himself from the sound in a recent interview.

“I and the supporters of the Ruff Movement already have made a permanent mark in the UK with the Ruff Sound, it exists and is moving,” he told SBTV
