Race will examine systemic injustices in current day America.

Jay Z and The Weinstein Company will bring their documentary series on race relations in America to National Geographic, Variety reports.

The six-part Race will combine documentary, animation and archival footage while focusing on subjects including crime and punishment, wealth inequality, the role of social media, activism and family.

“National Geographic and Jay Z are the world’s foremost storytellers in their own right, and we’re thrilled to be working with them on such an evocative and meaningful project,” said Weinstein Company co-chairman Harvey Weinstein. “By using highly cinematic storytelling techniques along with Jay Z’s singular point of view, the series will tell a dramatic, thought-provoking story on race in America.”

Earlier this year, Jay Z and The Weinstein company announced they were developing a six-part documentary series that would examine the examine the killing of Trayvon Marton, though it’s unclear if this will be a separate project or will be part of National Geographic’s series.
