Bristol’s Crazy Legs welcome Joy Orbison, Peverelist and Swindle on May 8.

You probably know Joy Orbison, he’s that guy who made that ‘Hyph Mngo’ track last year that plenty of magazines that you like made their number one pick of the year – this one included. He’s a great young producer, as the rest of his non-‘Hyph’ oeuvre proves: tracks like ‘GR Etiquette’, ‘Wet Look’ and ‘J. Doe’ some of the best modern house/garage hybrids around. He’s also a superb DJ, who draws for classic house as readily as he does new dubs by himself, James Blake and more.

Peverelist [above] is one of the godfathers of Bristol’s dubstep scene; he runs the city’s Rooted Records store and Punch Drunk label, and has a sound that draws from techno, jungle and industrial and sounds like little else around. His FACT mix is second only this year to Autechre in terms of popularity on our site – or it was last time we checked, anyway. He’s also released one of the best dubstep albums so far, Jarvik Mindstate.

Rounding off the bill is Swindle. Soon to host his own show on Radio 1Xtra, Swindle’s just released the superb, ragged ‘Air Miles’ single for Planet Mu, and is a big one to watch for this year, with productions that touch on classic funk and R’n’B as much as they do the synth-led grime of Joker at al.

It all goes off on Saturday May 8, at Basement 45, Bristol. More details on the Facebook event page.
