The former Dresden Doll bares all in the video for ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.’

This video has been controversial since the start. Originally, the song and video were to feature Erykah Badu (and a body double for the nude scenes). However, the Flaming Lips were forced to remove it after Ms. Badu accused the band of improperly releasing an unapproved video in an epic Twitter screed. Lips frontman Wayne Coyne countered that Badu was simply creating controversy for attention.

Undaunted, the Flaming Lips soldiered on with a new collaborator, Amanda Palmer. The cult “Brechtian punk cabaret” singer/songwriter replaces Badu with vocals as raw and bare as her nude body (which is more explicitly exposed than in Badu’s original version).

The Flaming Lips are preparing to release their 15th LP, The Terror, this fall. The album was created as multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd was in the throes of drug addiction. Palmer recently Kickstarted her next album with over $1 million in donations; the album is due in September.
