The A&R department at brilliant NY label RVNG INTL deserve not a little credit.

The label have been on the ball over the last 12 months, releasing formidable full-lengths from Blondes, Sun Araw & M. Geddes Gengras and, most notably, Julia Holter. They’ve not slouched on the reissue front either, reappraising Franco Falsini’s proto-post-rock project Sensations Fix on the excellent Music Is Painting In The Air compilation.

Fitting, then, that their latest acquisition unites a dancefloor sensibility with a sense of academic poise. Tennessee-via-Berlin polymath Holly Herndon is busying herself with a phD in computer music at Stanford, but she’s still managed to pull together a properly exciting debut LP of frazzled industrial techno. Movement will collect seven new tracks from Herndon – one of which, Dummy note, is now available to stream in full. The excellent ‘Fade’ nods heavily towards Chris & Cosey circa Songs Of Love And Lust, setting her slight, heavily filtered vocals over acid-laced electro-house.
