Brainfeeder/Leaving Records space cadet Ras G has been on generous form for the last few months.

Only last week, the producer toasted his birthday by releasing the free AinaT EP, an eight-track collection of zonked beats and scrambled digital ephemera. As Potholes In My Blog report, the beatmaker has now popped a new collaborative EP onto the web for nothing.

Kampala Blackouts sees the Afrikan Space Program controller teaming up with L.A. rapper Open Mike Eagle. Much in the same way that LV’s Sebenza turned to South Africa for inspiration, Kampala Blackout also features a host of MCs native to Uganda. It’s a dusky collection of blunted head-nod, spotted with radio-static and rogue air horns.

The collection was recorded over a fortnight in May of this year, and is pitched as an “international hip-hop exchange program”. US not-for-profit arts organisation J.U.i.C.E and Ugandan NGO AGYA collaborated to make the project possible. A short documentary about the scheme is below.
