The degraded, black-and-white clip matches the unforgiving acerbity of the song.

In FACT’s review of The Soft Moon’s Zeroes, William Skar noted the development of the band’s stage presence: “Vasquez and co administer an audiovisual harshing – a blitzkrieg of strobe lights, stuttering visuals and very, very, very loud noises.”

That same approach is on display on ‘Insides’, as the video alternates between stark, surrealistic doorway-in-the-desert imagery and a bit of Cartesian plane projection. The Mojave desert is a significant marker in the biography of The Soft Moon’s Luis Vazquez, and it’s never looked creepier.

The video is directed, shot and edited by Jacqueline Castel of Future Primitive Films, the company behind most of Zola Jesus’ videos. Watch it at the top of the page.
