Ballroom innovator Vjuan Allure releases free Vjuanage EP

The king of ballroom beats shares a powerhouse release on Mad Decent’s Jeffree’s imprint.

Over a decade ago, Vjuan Allure revitalized the sound of the ballroom by crafting and remixing tracks specifically for it, giving dancers something to drop to beyond the likes of ‘The Ha Dance’. Thanks to a renewed interest in ballroom beats (chiefly fostered by Night Slugs and Fade to Mind), Allure is finding a wider audience for his Elite Beatz recordings.

Supposedly two years in the making, Allure’s Vjuanage EP is well worth the wait. The titular congas of ‘Kid Conga (Rebounced)’ sets the tone for the rest of the EP: raw, eminently percussive tracks for the ballroom and beyond. ‘Fierce and Shady Tens (Gurl)’, featuring the commentating of Miss Jay, and the guttural ‘The En-Na-Er-Gi Bounce (Rebounced)’ bring ballroom tropes into the future, while ‘Percussonix’ is a raucous tribute to Cashmere’s ‘Percolator’.

Stream/download the Vjuanage EP below. While Jeffree’s output can be a bit scattershot, Diplo and company have released Zebra Katz’s ‘Ima Read’ and Baauer’s ‘Harlem Shake’.
