Madlib’s perma-stoned alter ego Quasimoto might be a fictitious “bad character” , but he’s still got the politicians on side.

Quasimoto hasn’t got much to prove: his 2000 debut The Unseen is easily one of the best (and, as anyone who’s heard a Captain Murphy or Jeremiah Jae release can tell you, most influential) alternative hip-hop records of its time, and he’s just released the excellent odds’n’sods collection Yessir Whatever – one of a frankly absurd number of comeback released in 2013. The Wookie-cum-aardvark has, however, now achieved his highest honour to date: a Certificate Of Recognition from the City Of Los Angeles.

The honour, typically given to mark contributions to community life or outstanding civic endeavours, recognises Lord Quas’ “excellence in masonry” – presumably a reference to the brick the critter is often pictured carting around. The 13-person city council also “congratulates [Quasimoto] on your newest album Yessir Whatever” and, charitably, offers “best wishes for continued success”. The certificate, which includes the signature of mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti, is available to peruse below. [via Rappcats ]
