Dizzee sounds particularly vital on the latest single from his forthcoming album.

While ‘I Don’t Need A Reason’ is not quite a return to the grime idol’s hey-day, it is certainly a breath of fresh air after his bonkers collaboration with Robbie Williams, ‘Goin’ Crazy’.

Produced by Chris Brown and Black Eyed Peas songwriters Jean Baptiste, Ryan Buendia, and Michael McHenry, the sparse, bass-heavy beat owes more to Snoop’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ and Cali Swag District’s ‘Teach Me How To Dougie’ than it does to anything on Dizzee’s recent albums — and that’s a good thing.

Keep up with Dizzee’s ratatat flow via the following lyric video. The song is set to appear on The Fifth, which features Bun B, Trae Tra Truth, Tinie Tempah, Jessie J, and Will.i.am and is due out this fall. Unfortunately, Dizzee promises a “Europop sound” for the rest of the record. [via NME]
