Stones Throw commemorate murdered rapper Charizma with 4xLP box set

Peanut Butter Wolf compiles 40 tracks created with the late Bay Area MC.

Stones Throw have announced a bumper vinyl box set commemorating the all-too-slim catalogue of rapper Charizma, who was shot and killed in 1993 aged just 20.

The anthology includes 40 classic, rare and unreleased tracks made with his friend and producer Chris Manak, now better known as Stones Throw boss Peanut Butter Wolf.

“Charizma’s death deeply impacted [Peanut Butter Wolf], who at the time stopped making music (and everything else) for several months after receiving the news,” the press materials note. “Ultimately, however, it was Charizma’s murder that gave PB Wolf the impetus to carry on and get their music heard by the world – setting up his own record label to do so. In 1996, Wolf founded Stones Throw Records and put out the first release, a Charizma/PB Wolf 12″ single called ‘My World Premiere’.”

Simply titled Circa 1990-1993, the anthology is spread over eight sides of vinyl and comes with previously unseen photos and ephemera. Some of the tracks were previously released on the 2003 album Big Shots.

The box set is out on May 27 and available to pre-order from the Stones Throw online store, where samples of the tracks can also be heard.

Peanut Butter Wolf delivered the most ambitious FACT mix in history this Valentine’s Day and recently spoke to The Vinyl Factory about the ace Stones Throw documentary Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton.
