Record Store Day and independent retailers go weekly with “Vinyl Tuesday”

By , May 26 2015

It’s like Record Store Day… but every week.

The American Association of Independent Music has launched Vinyl Tuesday, an initiative the trade group hopes will “maintain and grow physical retail” sales on the backs of special vinyl releases.

Vinyl Tuesday releases will include catalog (either special edition or regularly scheduled), commercial and promotional, rare (defined as released before CD/digital), Record Store Day exclusives and vinyl reissues. The releases will be managed by the Dept of Record Stores/Record Store Day.

It’s unclear how this will help physical sales, but it seems like exactly the type of “vinyl hype” that could be destroying the record. Similarly, FACT’s Josh Hall explored how Record Store Day risks becoming more of a problem than a solution. [via The Vinyl Factory]
