Beenie Man cancels OVO Festival appearance.

This weekend, Drake is putting on the seventh annual OVO Festival, featuring appearances from Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, among others. Jamaican “King of dancehall” Beenie Man was one of the artists set to perform, but has had to pull out following not only Visa complications, but a trip to hospital.

The dancehall star took to Instagram to let fans know that he had contracted the Zika virus, a dangerous dengue-related virus that’s spread primarily through mosquitoes. Causing fever, rashes and joint pain, the virus can also be spread sexually and is known to cause birth defects in pregnant women, which has caused a health emergency in the last year. Currently there is no vaccine for Zika.

Beenie Man was due to play the Toronto festival last night alongside Trinidad’s Machel Montano, but tweeted a photo of himself in hospital surrounded by nurses.

He wrote, “Jah know…dah week ya deal wid me a way!! No visa fi mi Canada show (I apologize again to my fans in case you haven’t seen the press release) Zika Virus hol’ mi. The same Zika mosquito gi mi dengue. Blood test, injections, pills.” Adding, “Wi a hol firm still. Selassie a guide I n I right through so once mi have life me a give thanks.”
