Sharon Jones has lost her battle to pancreatic cancer. She died at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY, a rep for Jones confirms.
A singer from childhood in church and school, Jones was modern soul singer famous for being the frontwoman of the Dap-Kings. She started the band with bassist and bandleader Gabriel “Bosco Man” Roth, the co-founder of Daptone Records. The group was nominated for the Best R&B Album Grammy in 2014 for their album Give the People What They Want.
Earlier this year, a documentary about her life Miss Sharon Jones! received a wide theatrical release after making the festival rounds in 2015.
