President Obama has signed the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act of 2016, making it illegal to use software to buy tickets to any event.

Like in New York and the UK, ticket bots are now criminalized. It is illegal to use the software, as well as resell tickets purchased using the software. Both people using the software and people aware that this kind of software was used will be liable for punishment, reports Engadget.

The government also has the ability to intervene and file civil suits on behalf of residents who were precluded from buying tickets to popular events in their area because of scalpers using ticket bot software.
