Look for a VR accompaniment soon.

Telefon Tel Aviv have released ‘Something Akin To Lust’, their first track in over eight years. It will be included in Territories, an upcoming VR compilation from multimedia label 79Ancestors.

Originally a duo of Joshua Eustis and Charles Cooper, the project has remained mostly dormant since Cooper’s death in 2009 days after the release of their final album, Immolate Yourself. Eustis has since worked in Second Woman, his excellent project with Belong’s Turk Dietrich, and as a live member of Nine Inch Nails. Still, the track’s pressure-building mix of drones and stabbing synths is a reminder of how special this original project is.

‘Something Akin To Lust’ will be released with a VR video directed by Timothy Saccenti, featuring a 360° spatial audio mix and illustrations by Steve Teeple (best known for his visual work with Flying Lotus). The video will be released in June through 79Ancestor’s app. Learn more here.

Last year, Ghostly reissued Telefon Tel Aviv’s debut album Fahrenheit Fair Enough and Eustis announced new live performances and music were on the way. He made good on the promise last year while opening for Moderat and this summer he’ll continue playing live with a limited series of dates.
