One of the early greats of dubstep, Vex’d, will have their long awaited second album released this year via Planet Mu.

Vex’d’s first album, Degenerate, is considered one of the finest dubstep full-lengths, but the duo have preferred to work solo in recent years. Cloud Seed, its follow-up, was never completed, but the two members of Vex’d (Jamie – who now records as Kuedo – and Roly) have got together to finish it. It will be preceded by the Starfox EP by Jamie / Kuedo.

In the label’s words, it’s a collection of “older material that they were working on for their second album that never got finished plus some other work from that time, a few remixes mastered and put together as a full album.” It’s due for a March 22 release, and given the depth and grit of Vex’d’s past work, will presumably be a lot more exciting than that quote makes it sound. Consider us excited.

Following Cloud Seed will be the second album by Philadelphia’s Starkey. The follow-up to 2008’s Ephemeral Exhibits, it will be titled Ear Drums and Black Holes and the label describe it as a “tour de force, a mixture of brilliant songs and dubstep epics that defy expectations.” It will feature the instrumental version of last year’s single ‘OK Luv’, which you can listen to here, and some of the other collaborations we spoke to Starkey late last year. That’s due on April 19.

In other Mu news, they’ve signed some new acts:

Internal Tulips, a collaboration between electronic veterans Lexacanupt and Electric Company which is closer to late period Beatles than 90s IDM. Their album, Mislead into a Field by a Deformed Deer will be released in March – watch a video of the pair here.

Rudy Zygadlo, an artist who was recent profiled by Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs, and who creates “unique pop music that takes in elements of dubstep, 60’s pop and indie”. His album Great Western Leymen is due in May.

– Bath based producer Slugabed, who’s already released on Ramp and Stuff Records. He’ll be releasing a six track EP called Ultra Heat Treated in February.

0=0, a drum’n’bass producer from Toronto who’ll be releasing an album called Punctuality, preceded by an April single.
