Cobblestone Jazz will release a new album, The Modern Deep Left Quartet, on March 29 via !K7 and Wagon Repair (via Resident Advisor).

Fans of Wagon Repair and the acts associated with it will know that The Modern Deep Left Quartet was the name of a group comprising Cobblestone members Mathew Jonson, Tyger Dhula and Danuel Tate (pictured) plus Colin de la Plante, AKA The Mole; they released only one record, 2005’s Babyfoot EP, before disbanding.

Well, The Mole is back for this new album, and the group-name becomes the title. Dhula and Tate hooked with de la Plante and Jonson in Berlin to record eight new tracks of electronic jams and improvisations; ‘Fiesta’ is the only one which has been previously released. As ever with Cobblestone Jazz, analogue equipment figures strongly and drives the thing forward: TR-808s, 909s and SH-101s working in tandem with Fender Rhodes piano and Cwekman and Doepfer modular synths.

Though !K7 is handling the CD/digital album, the vinyl edition, as well as a 12″ single release, ‘Chance Dub’/’Chance’, will come courtesy of Wagon Repair.
