The line-up for the 2011 Ether festival – March 24-28 – has been announced.

Taking place in London’s Southbank Centre, the annual “festival of of innovation, art, technology and cross-arts experimentation” will this year feature a live performance from seminal post-punk/goth/metal outfit Killing Joke and one from James Blake, the latter heading up an event called Harmonic Series.

There’s a focus on the legacy of Iannis Xenakis, the late Greek composer whose pioneering work existed at the crossroads between classical music, electronics, architecture and mathematics. As well as an international symposium event and a performance of Xenakis material from the London Sinfonietta, there’s a showcase of Xenakis-inspired work by younger artists (Young Xenarchitects), and lectures and workshops with Xenakis’s UPIC, the computerised composition tool which Russell Haswell and Florian Hecker used for their classic noise album Blackest Ever Black.

As previously announced, Pantha Du Prince and Apparat will both be premiering new material at Ether 2011, and Oneohtrix Point Never and Games will play live with DJ support from oOoOO. Micachu and The Shapes (remember them?) will be collaborating with the Sinfonietta on Chopped And Screwed, first aired last year, and Warp-signed Tim Exile will also play live. There’ll be a premiere for Piccard In Space, a new opera by Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory, and Colin Currie Group and Synergy Voices will perform Steve Reich’s Drumming. Kompakt deliver an evening of Pop Ambient with Burger/Voigt and The Field.
