Remember when people used to go and see other people play music in rooms? No, us neither.

The forward march of progress continues with the announcement of the world’s first ever ‘Spotify house party’. Air-mile collector Sebastian Ingrosso will be joined by associate Alesso for a live happening accessible through the streaming application. Wannabe attendees can access the DJs’ ‘room’ using the Soundrop app, which creates virtual spaces where people can listen to and discuss the same music in real time. Guests can subsequently vote on what tracks Ingrosso and Alesso play next, and also chat live to both stars.

Ingrosso sums up the venture with startling perspicacity: “We’re really excited to be giving all of our fans the chance to hang out with us and listen to some cool music in Spotify”. The ‘party’ will launch at 7.00pm BST on June 1; check the event Facebook page for more details. Anyone turning up with a virtual bottle of Babycham will be turned away at the door.
