Oris ‘Darqwan’ Jay, one of the UK underground’s most respected producers, is to finally release his debut album in July.

A regular in the early days of seminal London club-night FWD>>, a notorious breeding ground for early dubstep, Darqwan’s best known for releasing deadly darkside records that both laid down a template for the brittle street music that became dubstep, and perfectly suited the turn-of-the-noughties sound of rainswept London: think Horsepower, Zinc’s breakbeat garage, etc.

Although Darqwan doesn’t release as frequently as he once did, he’s still found time for recent collaborations with dubsteppers Benga and Jakes, and on July 30 will finally release his first album, To the Fly. Promising “grime, jungle, house, garage, dubstep and more”, but with every track rooted in the bleep ‘n’ bass sound of Jay’s birthplace Sheffield, guest appearances come from Pinch, Toddla T, MC Ranking and more.

You can check Darqwan’s 2002 classic ‘Said the Spider’ below.
