The L.A. Times report that the nephew of soul legend Stevie Wonder is standing trial on extortion charges.

Alpha Lorenzo Walker and his girlfriend Tamara Eileen Diaz were in court this Tuesday accused of orchestrating an extortion scam against Wonder. The pair were originally arrested back in early May after an undercover investigation by the LAPD. Walker and Diaz face charges of felony extortion “by means of force and threat”. Walker is also being interned due to probation violation.

The pair were caught out after police posed as representatives of the singer. Walker and Diaz were picked up after apparently threatening to make personal information about Wonder public unless he pay them $5m (although their demands apparently dropped to $10,000 over the course of their ‘negotiations’).

Wonder, fresh from having played the Queen’s Jubilee bonanza, will headline Bestival later this year.
