On first listen, Lil Wayne’s Dedication 4 mixtape is notable for two things.

One: for the first time in yonks, Lil Wayne sounds even vaguely interested in recapturing some of his former glories. Two: there’s a Mitt Romney endorsement coming from a very unexpected quarter.

As The Source note, crossover queen Nicki Minaj ostensibly uses her (typically rambunctious) appearance on the tape to throw her weight behind the GOP. On Wayne’s remix of G.O.O.D Music’s ‘Mercy’, Minaj utters her support for the Republican nominee: “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney /You lazy bitches are fucking up the economy”.

As ever with Minaj, it’s not certain whether she’s being sincere or mischievous. That said, there’s no loopy cod-English accent or obvious ventriloquizing going on – her lyric certainly sounds pretty straight down the line. If it’s true, Minaj will be in pretty narrow company (although LL Cool J and Scarface have both publicly thrown their support behind the Republicans in the past). You can listen to track below.
