R&B songsmith The-Dream named Executive Vice President of A&R at Def Jam

According to Complex, The-Dream has added a new title to his resume.

The Grammy Award winning hitmaker (Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies,’ Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella,’ Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’) has been named Executive Vice President of A&R at Def Jam, where he’s also signed as a solo artist. The news was announced by Barry Weiss, Chairman & CEO of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam Motown, and Karen Kwak, Executive Vice President/Head of A&R, Island Def Jam Music Group.

In 2009, The-Dream (aka Terius Nash) was made an Executive Vice President at Def Jam sister label Island, amid rumors that Love King would be his last album as a solo artist.

As an executive with Def Jam, he will oversee projects by new and established artists on the Def Jam roster, along with seeking out new talent for the label. In a statement, he said:

I am committed as I have been previously to bringing the power of belief in the artist back to the forefront. I share a unique view of an artist and as well as the business of music. I, with the help of many others, have ran a successful business for the last five years in the midst of the ‘Digital Change.’ My concentration and effort will be to the artist to succeed in their dreams and goals.

I’ve been a part of watching and participating in the success of many great women and men including Beyonce, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion to name a few. Music means more than just a download, it’s life to the culture and also the people who listen. This is a new exciting yet critical time for music – ‘You Meet Change with Change!’

Last year, Nash released the 1977 album under his real name, allegedly at the consternation of his Def Jam bosses. Watch the video for ‘Dope Bitch,’ from The-Dream’s long-delayed The Love IV MMXII, below.
