Red Bull Studios London has created a new six-part series called I Am Benga. The first episode airs on November 13.

The series looks at the hectic life of, yes, Benga, the DJ and producer whose rise to global prominence has paralleled that of dubstep, the genre he helped to pioneer when he was still at school age. I Am Benga will begin its story with his early life in Croydon, and trace his stellar trajectory over the following years, from underground favourite to household name.

2012 has been a remarkable year for Benga, extensively touring as part dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man (with Skream and Artwork) and with a solo career that continues to thrive. I Am Benga captures some of the most memorable moments of the last 12 months: flying by helicopter to Snowbombing, releasing tracks from forthcoming album Chapter II, and playing his first ever live solo showcase of new material at London’s KOKO. Long-term friendships with his main men Skream and Artwork, and huge ambition, have helped Benga continue to stretch himself and the genre he helped to create. I Am Benga offers a glimpse into the small town roots of an entire movement that is now taking over dance floors globally.

Commenting on the project, Benga says, “I’m incredibly excited about the series. I can’t wait to show everyone the amazing things I’ve been part of! There’s a great buzz around the show and everyone will get to see what’s next for me!”

Benga has received support from Red Bull Studios throughout his music career – not only helping him to produce new music, but also broadcasting his material to an audience of international music lovers. Benga now shows Red Bull Studios aspects of his world, from his front room to the studio, festival appearances and beyond – follow the series at the Red Bull Studios website.
