Sónar’s efforts at global domination continue apace.

Since 2002, the Spanish festival brand has hosted events all over the world – this year alone saw a major shindig in São Paulo, plus events in Cape Town, a festival in Tokyo and a relatively low-key North American tour, currently heading to Denver. As Playground report, Reykjavík is the latest city to join the illustrious list.

Sónar Reykjavík will take place on February 15 and February 16. Where other events have been on a grand scale, the Reykjavík dates are deliberately being kept as intimate as possible. The shows will take place at the Harpa concert hall, and will run from 6.00pm until 3.00am.

15 international artists are promised, and those announced so far are pretty starry. James Blake will be stopping by, and Squarepusher will bring his retina-melting live LED show. Modeselektor and Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto are also confirmed. Around 30 Icelandic acts will also play; Gus Gus, Ólafur Arnalds, Retro Stefson and Gluteus Maximus will be among those repping the island.

Tickets will go on sale from November 12, priced at 85€, via the Happa website.
