A new compilation will turn the spotlight on Hellenic electronic music from 1978-1991.

Into the Light: A Journey into Greek Electronic Music, Classics & Rarities (1978-1991) is the collaborative labour of Ilias Pitsios of Echovolt Records (previously responsible for releases from the likes of Ron Morelli and Legowelt) and Tako Reyenga of Red Light Records. The set – released on their boxfresh new label, also called Into The Light – collects a broad selection of Greek electronic music from in and around the 1980s.

Some of the material on display is relatively canonical: celebrated electronic composer Lena Platonos is repped, and George Theodorakis (of the Theodorakis dynasty of composers) also appears. There are rarities, too: an early Mihalis Rakintzis track, a disco dub edit of 141G’s ‘What You Gonna Do’ and an unreleased Dimitris Petsetakis edit are among the more elusive pieces on the record. Darting from disco to new age, it promises to be a deliberately wide-ranging set.

Into The Light will be limited to 600 copies, and will arrive exclusively on double vinyl. The album drops next month; a short trailer video is available below. [via Resident Advisor]
