Metallica reclaims back catalog, launches own label

The metal legends and Napster vanquishers strike out on their own.

As part of their 1994 agreement with Warner Music Group, the band has reclaimed ownership of their entire back catalog of music and long form videos, according to a press release (via Consequence of Sound).

In addition, the band has created Blackened Recordings as a home for all their recordings and “anything else that suits them.” Blackened will handle marketing and promotion, while Rhino Entertainment will distribute in the US and Universal Music Group will handle international licensing.

Metallica’s live DVD Quebec Magnetic is due out December 10, and the teaser trailer is below.
