Mystic pop specialist Julian Lynch announces new album, Lines

The wonderful Julian Lynch will return this year with more balmy psychedelia for quiet moments.

Lynch arrived on the scene during the 2009/2010 prime of wonderful (and now largely dormant) label Olde English Spelling Bee with his fuzzy Orange You Glad LP. His moment in the sun arrived with 2010’s sublime Mare, a groggy psych-pop record that took its cues from Kadri Gopalnath and Robert Wyatt. 2011’s Terra – the title track of which is below – was similarly well-received. He’s shared a split 7″ with childhood friend Ducktails in the past, and is currently toiling away on a Ph.D in Anthropology and Ethnomusicology.

As Ad Hoc report, Lynch is set to return in March with a new album, entitled Lines. The record will arrive courtesy of experimental indie label Underwater Peoples, previously home to Eric Copeland, Dolphins Into The Future and James Ferraro.

Lines is home recorded, but promises a cleaner, sharper sound than his previous work. Expect an emphasis on “musically complex and thoughtful compositions without abandoning the accessibility, nuanced timbres, and vivid instrumentation found on his first three LPs”.
