Lupe Fiasco’s The Great American Rap Album project has been mothballed.

Last year, the Chicago rapper released Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, a nominal sequel to the his rather good 2006 breakthrough LP (and, most reviewers seemed to agree, a somewhat mistitled one at that). He also gave us some slightly ugly beef with Chief Keef, a bit of pram-sited toy throwing over a bad review, and a general impression that the MC might have lost the plot.

As Exclaim report, the rapper has now cancelled his forthcoming Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 2 LP, previously slated to arrive this year. Taking to Twitter, Lupe wrote: “Hello. A decision has been made that the project titled ‘F&L2 Part 2’ will be summarily cancelled for public release in 2013.” He also suggested that a new “title/concept” was in the works, and subsequently deleted his Twitter account, suggesting that Lupe is going through something of a rebranding process.

Lupe had previously claimed that his 2012 LP would be his last, suggesting that his “first true love was literature” and that the rap game could only bring “more pain”.
