Mogwai to release their soundtrack to French thriller series Les Revenants: stream a track inside 'Motor Wizard'

February 25 sees ever-excellent Scottish unit Mogwai release their score to Les Revenants, a supernatural thriller series on French television network Canal+.

Adapted from Robin Campillo’s 2004 film of the same name, Les Revenants “unfolds in an isolated French mountain town, where the locals are troubled after children who were tragically killed in a bus crash appear to come back to life, unaware that they’d died.” Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite reveals in the press release for Les Revenants that the band are “big fans” of Fabrice Gobert, who directed the series; Gobert’s 2010 film Simon Werner A Disparu was soundtracked by Sonic Youth.

It’s not Mogwai’s first venture into soundtracking – in 2006 they scored Zidane, a film centered around French footballer Zinedine Zidane – but Braithwaite does describe the album as “completely new for us. The remit given to us was very vague – which was ideal – but we were still working to instruction for the first time, which offered a new kind of limitation. As it was a TV series soundtrack too, there was more than four times the amount of screen time for us to put music to, had to be created in a short period of time.”

You can stream a track from Les Revenants, the growling ‘Wizard Motor’, below. Mogwai wil be releasing the soundtrack on their own Rock Action label.
