Boom Bip’s currently busy commemorating the life of Giangiacomo Feltrinelli with Neon Neon, but another of his earlier high-concept works is about to get a physical release.

Last year, the producer teamed up with visual artist Charlie White, previously responsible for a host of art pieces investigating adolescence. The pair interviewed a number of teenage girls aged between 12 and 16, ranging from the “neurotic” Sabrina to the “sultry and complicated” Isabelle. Boom Bip then went about producing tracks that captured the spirit of each girl in question; the resulting project, Music For Sleeping Children, was made available to download for free as an online art project.

The compositions, according to the pair, tap into “the complex tensions resonant in the teen voices while transforming each girl into a popular music form of her own”. The results – mumbled stories of betrayal, bitchiness set and over dreamy electro beats – sound like Larry Clark’s Kids as scored by Purity Ring.

On February 19, Lex will give the project a proper vinyl release. The 12″ edition of Music For Sleeping Children comes backed with all of Boom Bip’s instrumentals, and is limited to 500 copies worldwide. Note: the pieces are still available to download here.
