Adventurous minimal producer Stefan Goldmann to go Live At Honen-In Temple

Stefan Goldmann’s discography is long and compelling.

As well as clocking up minimal releases for bigwigs like Ovum and Perlon, Goldmann’s not averse to high-concept art pieces or quirky commissions: 2008’s Voices Of The Dead was inspired by France’s National Library, and his 2009 revision of ‘Le Sacre Du Printemps’ reimagined Stravinsky’s original as a filleted collage piece. Last year’s all-analogue 17:50, meanwhile, saw Goldmann interrogate Western tonal systems by pitch-bending every single note on the record.

As Resident Advisor report, Goldmann will release a live disc in Spring. Live At Honen-In Temple was recorded at the titular holy site in Kyoto last year. The performance, arranged as part of Goldmann’s Villa Kamogawa residency in the city, took place in front of a tiny crowd “while daylight faded into the dark of night”. Goldmann’s set is a decidedly ambient affair, focusing on musique concréte, microtonal music and beatless soundscapes. The album promises a glut of previously unreleased material, alongside familiar friends like ‘Lunatic Fringe’.

Live At Honen-In Temple will arrive on Goldmann’s Macro label on May 6 on CD and digital. Video of the performance is below
