Karl O’ Connor – aka UK techno don Regis – rifles through the vaults on a new release for Minimal Wave.

O’ Connor’s Sandra Plays Electronics electronics project predates his work as Regis, stretching all the way back to his late 1980s salad days. A clutch of vintage Sandra Plays Electronics tracks were compiled on Downwards’ 2011 collection White Savage Dance disc, and showed a teenage O’ Conner producing DIY post-punk with rudimentary electronic kit. He’s intermittently returned to the alias on a smattering of releases, including a 10″ in 2010 featuring contributions from Sandwell District cohort Juan Mendez.

Forthcoming Minimal Wave 7″ Her Needs collects two versions of the title track, recorded a decade apart from one another. The first iteration is taken from a 1988 soundcheck recording at the Birmingham College Of Food And Domestic Arts. The flip, meanwhile, was recorded in 1999 at the city’s Ice House studio during the sessions for Diversion Group’s 2000 LP A Man Has Responsibilites.

Minimal Wave will release Her Needs on 7″ on March 18; head here to stream clips. The record will arrive on clear vinyl, and comes with cover art starring Minimal Wave’s very own Veronica Vasicka. The disc follows the release of Streetwalker’s blinding Future Fusion on Minimal Wave offshoot Cititrax. [via Juno Plus]
