Camera Obscura will release their fifth album of stirring pop for delicate souls in Summer. 

Initially lumped in with affiliates Belle & Sebastian on the release of their 2001 debut, the Glasgow five-piece impressed with two fine LPs (Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi and 2003’s Underacheivers Please Try Harder) of heartsore, heavily orchestrated indie-pop. Their high watermark, however, remains 2006’s hugely charming Let’s Get Out Of This Country, notable for the Phil Spector sugar rush of lead track ‘Lloyd, I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken’.

The band are now gearing up to release their first album since 2009’s My Maudlin Career. Desire Lines will arrive on 4AD in June, and was recorded with Spoon producer Tucker Martine in Portland in late 2012. The record – reportedly their “most challenging to write” – boasts guest appearances from The New Pornographers’ Neko Case and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James (also confirmed to appear Black Thought’s nascent “blues album”).

Desire Lines is due on June 3. The band will tour the UK in June; dates are below.
