It was probably fairly predictable, but Justin Timberlake’s really quite good The 20/20 Experience has outsold the competition and jumped to the top-spot sales-wise this year, selling a mammoth 968,000 copies in its first week.

It’s been a while since solo males have had any similar impact on the charts; Lil Wayne’s breakthrough Tha Carter III was the last to do these kind of numbers so quickly, and sales for The 20/20 Experience have made it the third biggest opening week for a solo male singer behind Usher’s Confessions and Garth Brooks’ Double Live.

It seems as though doing the Harlem Shake on Saturday Night Live might have actually transformed general goodwill into sales, either this or we’ve all got far better taste than we’re letting on. Whatever the cause, good on Justin, and with another album due for November he’s due a pretty vintage 2013. [via Consequence Of Sound]
