?uestlove says The Roots will join Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show

With Jimmy Fallon set to takeover The Tonight Show in 2014, where does that leave his house band?

The Roots have served as the house band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon since the show’s 2009 premiere. NBC recently revealed that Fallon will take over for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show at some point in 2014, but the band’s role in the move is unclear. Nah Right points to a brief interview between ?uestlove and Fuse TV that touches on the topic.

The Tonight Show is coming to us; we’re not going to The Tonight Show. The Tonight Show is coming to New York… so basically, it’s going to be the same show,” The Roots’ bandleader explains. “But right now… that’s basically a year from now… so we’re just very concerned and concentrating on still doing our thing at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” On a follow-up, Questo was even more definitive: “We’re staying.”

The drummer declined to answer further questions about the late night transition, but did note the band’s accomplishments in their latest role. “I like to think we’ve kinda enhanced or re-defined the band’s role in the late night format.”
