Omniverous post-hardcore unit Unwound are to have their early work collected in a new package from The Numero Group.

The archival imprint – already responsible for reissues from long-lost metallers Medusa and funk man Syl Johnson in 2013 – have promised a slew of Unwound reissues over the course of the year. 1991’s Big Baby LP, released by Unwound offshoot Giant Henry, was rereleased for Record Store Day 2013, and all seven of the band’s LPs – increasingly extreme collections of rhythmically tricksy grunge-rock – will arrive in remastered and expanded form in Autumn.

The Numero Group will kick off the reissue drive with a bumper box set, featuring a host of early singles, B-sides and rarities. Kid Is Gone will arrive split over 3 LPs, and will feature 34 tracks recorded between 1991-1992. The haul will include material from a self-titled 7″, their ‘Caterpillar single, radio recordings and low-spec demo recordings. All the music predates the band’s self-titled debut album, recorded in 1992 but held in stasis until 1995.

Kid Is Gone is due on September 6; a brief trailer for the package is below. Unwound’s labyrinthine 1993 LP Fake Train popped up on our Top 100 Albums Of The 1990s list. [via Exclaim]
