Oval gives away bevy of rare albums and EPs through Bandcamp

Markus Popp – the man behind blue-chip glitch project Oval – has gifted a string of rare and neglected releases to the commonweal.

As The Wire note, Popp has uploaded six little-heard records onto his Bandcamp page for free download. The works date from between 1998 and 2001, and range from Japan-only EPs to full-length installation projects.

The records in question are: 1998’s Aero Deko EP and Dok, a “counter-remix-project” based around recordings by sound designer Christophe Charles; 1999’s Szenario EP; 2000’s Ovalprocess, based around an installation featuring publicly accessible sound terminals, and the complimentary Pre/Commers album; and 2001’s “3D musical obstacle course” Ovalcommers. OvalprocessPre/Commers, and Ovalcommers also come with a clutch of bonus tracks, previously only available on the Japanese editions of said albums.

The (few) remaining physical copies of the records in question are also available to buy through the site. That’s not all: on June 24, Popp will launch a new mailing list, Circle, which will offer a new subscribers-only album once a year, plus an exclusive new track once a month.

FACT sat down with Popp earlier this year to discuss the genesis of his classic LP 94diskont; head here to read the piece. 94diskont placed high in our rundown of 100 Best Albums of the 1990sOvalprocess is available to stream below.
