Skrillex's Essential Mix is "single most played piece of content in BBC Radio 1 history"

Why play records when you can break them?

A couple of weeks ago, EDM poster boy Skrillex stepped up to the Essential Mix plate, airing a two-hour session featuring the likes of Blawan, Jeremih, Disclosure and A$AP Rocky. Of course, no-one would have betted against the mix clocking up some fairly robust listening stats – but it seems the session has surpassed all expectations.

As Mixmag note, Skrillex’s mix has become the most played show in Radio 1’s 46-year history. According to a Tweet from his OWSLA label, Skrillex “got word over the weekend that @Skrillex @EssentialMix was the single most played piece of content in @BBC_Radio_1 history across all media.”

Last Saturday’s Essential Mix arrived courtesy of former FACT mixer Breach; head here to listen.

Update: If this news isn’t to your liking, here’s a bit of schadenfreude for your afternoon. As a genius Youtube commenter notes: “I guess the bass dropped him this time.” [via Clash]
