Former Arab Strap man Aidan John Moffat has pulled a Thaemlitz and made what appears to be the first ever Vine-only album.

Moffat’s recent LP under his long-standing L. Pierre alias, The Island Come True, was a delight. A nautical collection of drowsy tropicalia and moth-eaten loop music, it very narrowly missed out on inclusion in our Quarter Report rundown of the best albums from January through March.

Moffat has just issued a new L. Pierre “album”, The Eternalist. Note those quotation marks: although the project is being billed as such by Moffat, it’s actually eight short Vine loops, none of which go on longer than a couple of seconds. Still, if trance-inducing loop fare are is your bag, it’s not hard to spend an hour-plus with these pretty, endlessly cycling fragments.

Over to Moffat:

“A new album by L. Pierre is now available for free! Perhaps not an album in the strictest sense – it consists of eight (theoretically never-ending) loops with video and was made in Vine. For best results, search for LPierreMusic in the Vine app on your phone/device to find the exclusive L. Pierre profile page and listen from there, preferably with earphones. Alternatively, you can hear it on the new L. Pierre Twitter profile page, and there’s a more desktop-friendly Tumblr version too. But as I say, Vine is best – the video loops were created in Vine and the results are smoother and more precise.”

In related news, a new L. Pierre EP is also in the works. Surface Noise will arrive on 10″ on September 16, and promises an “affectionate tribute to the wear and tear of overplayed vinyl, the hiss, scratch and pop of records long-loved but worn down.” The same day will also herald a full reissue of Moffat’s 2002 solo debut as Lucky Pierre, Hypnagogia.
