Back in the days when we were teenagers.

In a celebration of hip hop’s worlwide reach and influence over the past thirty years, London label BBE are set to release The Heroes: A Tribute To A Tribe Called Quest by Mozambique duo Simba and Milton Gulli next month.

The album is an ode to the influence A Tribe Called Quest have had on the pair since first coming upon the NYC’s group music in the 1990s.

“This is the story of how A Tribe Called Quest inspired two Mozambican artists, the rapper Simba and producer and musician Milton Gulli to make a difference musically, to not fear being different, to not fear self expression. This tribute is to thank ATCQ for being the first to take these steps, and to make it easier for those who followed. This album is an expression which purpose is to thank ATCQ for being, not only a source of inspiration, but more importantly a source of positive energy.”

Across its 11 tracks the duo cover classic ATCQ songs, re-interpreting not just the musical foundations but also the lyrics to praise their inspirations and deliver their own messages.
