Roots frontman accepts challenge to celebrate the music of those who left too early.
If anyone in today’s music world can pull off the strangest DJing selection challenges it’s Questlove. The drummer, producer and leader of The Roots is well known for his selector skills and the depth of his musical knowledge. It seems these are to be tested once more on September 10 for the release party of Bradley Spinelli’s book Killing Williamsburg.
The idea is for Questo to spin three hours of carefully chosen tracks inspired by the act of suicide. In a press release Spinelli explained: “Some people burn bright and blow out, so let’s celebrate the wonderful music of people who exited too early. Nirvana, the Plasmatics, maybe some INXS? I’m sure Questlove will throw us some curves.”
Despite the slightly morbid vibe you might get reading this, the event is to be held on World Suicide Prevention Day. So if you want to be reminded of the music some of our greatest musical talents, and others, have left behind then you’d best make your way to Williamsburg next month. [via Selt-Titled]
