Sonically in line with previous single ‘What Love Is Made Of’, ‘5 AM’ is a spiritual successor to On A Mission‘s ‘Lights On’: an ode to looking for love when the night is turning into morning. Over a house groove vaguely reminiscent of Swedish House Mafia, Katy coos, “I need somebody to calm me down / a little lovin’ like Valium / I need somebody to knock me out / I need some lovin’ like…”
